Doing these News bits is just as paradoxical as writing a diary – whenever I’ve got the time, I’m not doing enough to warrant it, and whenever I’m busy, I don’t have the time. Still, I’m going to do one now ’cause it’s been three months since the last one, which is ridiculous.
Heritage Arts Company Website: The HAC are in full swing with their various projects, and they’re putting the website to excellent use. I will be joining them this week for their curatorial stint at London Bridge’s Shunt – playing ‘bone in roots folk band Yellowbellys on Thursday (11th June), my Dad’s band (Rupert Herries and Friends) and The Small Town Bullies on Friday, and DJing afro/funk/latin stuff on Friday and Saturday. I’ll also be about at Standon Calling as part of their space-themed installation-performance arena, The Heliocentre.
Sofrito Tropical Sessions: The poster for Family Atlantica’s jaw-dropping gig at The Double Club in April led to an offshoot image the band will be using to promote a fantastic trip around various Trans-Atlantic countries soon, entitled Proyecto Malungo. Keep an eye on Family Atlantica’s myspace for more info*. The Karl Hector and the Malcouns gig was awesome, and I managed to slap some paint on a home-made sign to add to the celebrations. Click here for some process photos.
Soundway Records: I’ve been working with Soundway to redesign their blog with a view to creating a full-blown Wordpress CMS-run website. It’s in the initial stages still and the content will grow over the next few weeks, but keep tabs on it as they have some new (world-class, as always) releases coming out, including the excellent Panama!2, which was released last week. Phase 2 of the site coming soon…
Business Life Magazine: If you happen to be going on a short-haul flight over the next month, you might see this. They did a bit of a thing on me inside somewhere too, which was really nice of them.
In other news, pick up the new Stool Pigeon magazine (the only music newspaper that’s really worth reading) – Daddy Bones (Big Daddy/Grandslam magazines) and I continue our face-slappingly bad pun-based cartoon, ‘Celebrity Catch’.
*I’ll apologise on behalf of Myspace for its horrible jpeg compression…
